This four week intensive Timber Post and Beam course is where the orient and Occident meet. Japanese and European traditional joinery combine takes the student from basic to complex.

This project is 1 ½ storeys and measures over 1400 sq ft. It is designed on a plan grid using 8”x8” Douglas fir timbers traditionally joined with an EPS infill wall system, yin and Yang. The architectural design is an influence of Japanese and American arts and crafts.

Author James Mitchell teaches how to develop shop drawings, apply center line square rule layout, employing templates for complex joints. This is a totally modular building system where the pieces, fabricated simultaneously, are interchangeable and can be stored. Learn how James constructed and stored his 4500sqft P&B residence 3 years before owning property.

The design, tools and instruction we provide at ISBA enables our Graduates to enter the Timber Frame Industry or apply this knowledge towards his/her future Timber Frame projects. Remember we wrote the Book!
