Art Du Trait Overview

This year we will offer two Art du Trait courses. Summer 2016 (August) will be a four week course focused on hip roof systems and Fall 2016 (November/December) will be a three week course focused on valley roof systems. Students will learn basic to advanced techniques of ‘trait’. We will go through the basics of hips and valleys and work our way to the complex ‘treteaux a devers’. Students will work on both models and a full scale roof system that incorporate advanced compound joinery in hips/valleys, bird’s mouth and purlins as part of a complete roof system. Building maquettes and raccords using Le Trait will allow students to have a very thorough understanding of trait. At the end of the course, students will have the confidence and knowledge to master any roof intersections that they may encounter.
